[Gristmillers] W.C. Meadows and R.C. Meadows History

Hello everyone, I am Barry Carlton of Winston Salem who just recently joined the gristmillers. I am interested in gristmills because I love stoneground meal and flour and it is part of my family's history.

 My grandmother was Viola Meadows daughter of Rev. William Calloway (W.C.) Meadows of Pores Knob N.C. the inventor of the Meadows portable grist mill. Her brother was Robert Calloway (R.C.) Meadows who built a house around 1900 just behind his father W.C.at Pores Knob.

They both worked together in the mill business and after W.C. sold the patent to his orginal wooded cased mill. They both worked to develop an all metal mill which they felt was better as it would not be as apt to get out of line.

I remember seeing my great uncle Bob (R.C. Meadows) as a child and recently bought one of his mills from Bob Hege.

I think he is not as famliar with our family history as I am as I noticed he has been giving out some incorrect info, in an earlier thread about the R.C. Meadows mills.

I am excited that so many folks are still interested in the meadows mill so if I can help you sort through the history feel free to ask.

I have spent many hours interviewing both my Dad and my Uncle Bob,s (R.C. Meadows) son Earl Meadows you used to live in Uncle Bob,s house at Pores Knob about our history and the Meadows mill business.
