[Gristmillers] bedstone mortar?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I had forgotten about that site. I had
looked those pics over pretty carefully before I did my first mill. I have
a few more tools and a lot more knowledge now, so what I see now makes a lot
more sense. 1 thing I can't wrap my mind around..why the piece of plywood
between the halves? Both of my mills had the bed stone recessed into it's
case, not protruding out of it. Seems like this would cause the bedstone to
stick out.
Also, I'll eventually need a hopper and 4 legs for this mill. Reproductions
will be just fine with me. I had an extra set, but I let them go to someone
who really needed them because I thought I'd never need them. I can use the
set from my other mill until I find a set.

John,
It had been a while since I'd looked at your web site. I still consider it
one of my favorite locations for construction advice. Thanks again for all
your efforts to document your projects. It's helped me numerous time from
going down the wrong path... and helped inspire..
Thanks,
mike in Anchorage

Don't use mortar mix. Use good high tensile strength concrete from any Lowes
or Home Depot. You can look at my website for detailed pictures of setting a
bedstone. www.foroldtimesake.org.

I know we go through this periodically, but I've forgotten. I'm getting
ready to pour the bedstone on the 20" meadows I got a few weeks ago. What
are you using for mortar? The first one I did a few years ago, I used plain
mortar mix from a bag. I seem to remember a few different thoughts on this.
What say ye? Does anyone have a good process for lining up the mill then
pouring where mortar doesn't get where it's not supposed to and the stones
are lined up when you're done? That was another problem I ran into last
time.
Thanks.
