Faber:

I think that's a great idea. Why don't you give me a call and we'll work out the details.

Perhaps before everyone is greatly inconvenienced for my benefit, would you entertain
letting me come to Lake Charles with the mill just so you could look over the pieces for an idea of completion
and giving me general direction? I do better seeing something with my eyes. If we could sort of piece
the mill back together I believe with your advice I can get back to Texas and do the redo. I don't want
to impose, but I would be willing to drive to Lake Charles if I could have a couple of hours with you. I can
get there in about 4.5 hours. Hence, I could leave early, get there late morning, and then be back on my way.
Then if I still felt the need to take the fellows up on the NE Louisiana option I could do so. This would be an
  extremely helpful start for me.

  Let me know,
  Faber

I wish I could offer more to help you, but traveling to Northeast Louisiana is out of the question for me. I will be glad to offer any technical advice that I can. I have rebuilt three of these old mills. Believe me, if I can do it anybody can. There are only a few things that are critical, setting the bedstone, tramming, and facing the stones. If you are dealing with the mill that I think you are, the stones shouldn't need dressing. Measurements aren't super critical. Just get it close.

My website, www.foroldtimesake.org has a lot about restoring these old mills. If you haven't done so, check it out. You can also feel free to call me any time
at 337-855-6072. Let me know what I can do to help from Lake Charles, LA.

Wow! What a response. I think I'm going to Oak Ridge, La as soon as I can if someone on the list
can meet me there. If one were to talk me through the job and show me how it all fits together I'm
certain I could do it here in Texas. Or, we could cut the pieces right there with Joe's shop.

        Folks,
It sounds to me like a batch of millers needs to get together and rebuild a mill.
I am in Northeastern Louisiana. I have lots of wood, ample tools, a blacksmith shop, machine shop, sheet metal shop and room to sleep 25 or more. I offer my place free for this project. I have a mill I will donate - but it is probably in worse shape than the one Faber has. Mine is just the metal parts, but, I think, all of them.
What I do NOT have, is the knowledge, plans, experience and ability, to rebuild a mill. I have one working and four wrecks.

We regularly host gatherings of craftspeople and artists. I know the distance is awkward - but it is what I have to offer. I suspect that we could have a lot of fun, and do a good thing in the process. Lets take this lemon and make lemonade!

Another option would be for those of us with mills on trailers to descend on Navasota when the wheat is ready to mill? ( my mill is not on wheels)
